Applications

Chem-Pruf’s Standard FRP Door sets the standards in the industry for tough, corrosion-resistant, fiberglass doors. Working closely with chemical manufacturers, Chem-Pruf tailors the resin formula specifically to match the conditions where the door will be installed. Chem-Pruf’s unique one-piece stile and rail system provides our doors with outstanding strength and dimensional stability – no warping or bow racking, ever.

Technical Information

Chem-Pruf® standard doors are manufactured of fiberglass reinforced polymers and have a fiberglass content of 25-30% by weight.  The fiberglass laminate consists of a 25-mil gel coat applied to the mold surface.  This gel coat layer is the first line of defense against chemical attack, and comes in custom colors.  Layers of glass mat and roving, saturated with resins, complete the laminate.  The plates and collar of the door are one homogenous and engineered resin system, incorporating chemical and physical bonding.  The interior cavity of a standard Chem-Pruf® door is completely filled with honeycomb, unless polyurethane foam is specified.  For doors used in exterior applications, honeycomb core is strongly recommended because honeycomb has a higher strength-to-weight ratio, a uniform crushing strength, a high shear strength, excellent impact resistance, and it provides less susceptibility to thermal bow when compared to foam.  Although, if better acoustics or higher insulation factors (R-values) are required, a 2-4 lb. density polyurethane foam core can be specified instead of honeycomb. Chem-Pruf® makes it simple to install a door by offering pre-assembled unitized door systems.  These systems are available for Style I and Style IV frame single door units, up to 4' x 8'.  All Chem-Pruf® double doors are pre-hung at the plant, but shipped knocked down.

Bottom Notes:

1) Don't let a company fool you with what seems to be an excellent warranty on its  products.  Some companies have not even been around as long as the time that its products are guaranteed.  Chem-Pruf® has been manufacturing superior fiberglass doors since 1975, and offers a twenty five year unconditional guarantee against failure due to corrosion from the specific environment named at the time of purchase, and a ten year guarantee against failure due to materials and workmanship. 2) In order to produce the best quality FRP products, it is imperative that the proper glass-to-resin ratio be used.  Knowing this, Chem-Pruf® has made it a point to use a fiberglass content of 25-30%, which is achieved by the skill of our highly experienced craftsmen.  This glass-to-resin ratio yields an IZOD impact resistance of 5.4 ft.-lbs./in.  Do not be misled by other companies stating that their products contain higher percentages of fiberglass.  Using too much or too little fiberglass can have negative effects on the final product, such as weakness and structural failure.  Chem-Pruf®'s FRP plates have an average weight of 0.94 pounds per square foot, which is optimum for strength and durability.
